Week 1 – Marketing Masterclass Summary

Hello friends

The Masterclass started with Module One which is about Creating an Online Presence by means of a blog or web blog.

Module 1  Creating an Online Presence

What is a domain name? Basically it is the name or address of the website.  Examples of domain names are ebay.com, google.com .  When you type them on your browser you are taken to their website.

John showed us how to use 1&1 site to find a domain name. He wants us to to find a domain name that relates to who we are – by choosing our names as the domain name and ending in dot com. I have decided to name my site nonasangalang.com and it is available.

John suggested that if someone has beat you in using your name, make some small changes like putting the word blog.com, or put a hyphen in your name then make it as your domain name. Next he  showed us how to choose a hosting account which will host our domain.  This is something which can not be avoided.  He recommended D9 Hosting because the owners are his former students and the company was created basically to cater for the needs of John’s students.  The advantage of hosting with D9 is that they already know specifically the students’ requirements as they have been hosting John’s students domains since 2005.  Their hosting charges are also very competitive compared with the other hosting companies. In my case, since I have an existing account with D9, all I did was to place my new domain as an add on.

We learned to login to our Cpanel, set up our email address relating to the domain name we created and added that email account to our email client, the  software we are using to manage our emails,  in my case MS Outlook.

So that’s it folks!  That’s what we learned in Week 1.

Cheers

Attending John Thornhill’s Marketing Masterclass

Hello friends,

I have registered for a 36 week training under John Thornhill’s Marketing Masterclass.  Actually it was last year that I wanted to take it up, however when I inquired it was closed at that time.  Instead I attended  Alex Jeffreys second coaching program from July-August 2009.  I was a complete newbie then but very eager to learn internet marketing.   I realized now that learning  internet marketing will take a long curve but finding a good mentor to guide you will certainly help.

John Thornhill is a wonderful mentor who has a gift for teaching the way a good teacher should.  He speaks clearly and not so fast so it’s easy to understand what he means.  He has perfected his sytem in a logical, step by step process which will not overwhelm his students.  His system is by way of videos showing you the exact process of what to do, and simply implement them in your site.  The videos are a delight to watch and are   backed up by text transcripts in PDF, if you prefer to read. .  Either way they are available for you. You can always go back and replay the videos or read them in text.  There is also a  checklist of tasks to be done during the week which you can use as a guide and tick each of them once you have done them successfully.

What I particularly like in this program is John himself do the teaching and not somebody else hired by him. We have  access to the vast knowledge of this talented world class marketer.  Now I understand why his coaching program sells like hotcakes in the market!

Watch out for my next post for the summary of what we have learned so far  from the Masterclass.

Cheers,

Nona

Some Advantages of Running your Own Home Based Business

With so many companies downsizing and jobs being outsourced to other countries, many workers are being made redundant and find themselves out of work.   Nowadays redundancy is no longer a rare occurrence and the stigma attached to it is finally waning.  The days of life long employment with one company has long been gone.

Thank goodness there is the internet  where you can start creating online marketing not available a couple of decades ago. You can start selling on eBay which does not require huge capital,  or engage in internet marketing with the myriad models of generating income.

To survive in these dour economic times what is required  is the ability to learn and adapt to changing circumstances.  This is where a positive attitude will mean the difference of success or failure in your  financial well being.

Creating your own online home based business may appear to be daunting at first,  but certainly there are advantages and some of these are:

  • No boss to answer to.  You  are your own boss, and you make decisions by yourself.
  • No long daily commute to the workplace.  Your daily commute time is 2 minutes down to your home office.
  • Minimal overhead costs – no building rental expenses and related utilities expenses
  • Flexible schedule of work time.  You do not need to wake up at the sound of the alarm clock.
  • More time to enjoy life and the family.  As you work from the comforts of your home, you can schedule your time around the needs of your family especially if you have growing children.
  • There is the potential of earning unlimited amount of money from the internet.

If your creativity has been stifled for so long,  now it is your chance to unleash it.   Being creative is one of the most important traits you have to possess in order to succeed in your home based online business.

Why It is Necessary to Create Multiple Streams of Income

We have heard time and time again about the saying do not put all your eggs in one basket.  This means we have to diversify our sources of income regardless of whether we do our business in the real world or on the internet.  It seems changes in the business environment on the internet are a lot quicker to happen than doing business in the real world.

The need to diversify is essential to protect ourselves from the negative financial consequences if we encounter losses in one venture. It is wise that we try to soften any financial blow by having many streams of income working for us, so that if one of them stop making money we still have others making money for us.

Let’s take an example selling on eBay.  In 2008, eBay changed the way digital information products are being delivered by halting digital products’ delivery by downloadable links.  Many sellers were affected by this policy and several decided to stop altogether selling information products on eBay.  You will wonder how these sellers survived if they do not have other income streams.   As eBay can change policies  any time, sellers should be prepared to adapt to these changes.  The challenge for internet entrepreneurs is to create multiple income streams for their financial security and peace of mind.

Why I am Selling Vintage Homewares on Ebay

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my blog where I will share with you ideas and information on eBay and internet marketing in general.  I hope by sharing experiences and ideas we will  find the level of success we are craving for, enjoy!

Nona

When I opened an eBay account in 2005 to purchase CDs for my sons, I also discovered there are many eBay members who are selling used items .  They sell second hand items or vintage things which can be found lying around your home.  The idea of de- cluttering my home of possessions which are no longer needed and gain extra cash from it, encouraged me to start my own hobby, hence the name vintage*style*store was created.

The stuff I sell range from vintage homewares such as  chenille bedspreads, silverware set or separate pieces, depression glass, and small collectibles.  There are many items falling under these categories and I can source them locally by being patient in making regular visits to  thrift shops or attending garage sales, estate sales or local auctions.

These stuff give me decent  profits from my buying and selling activities on eBay, but there is one more compelling reason why I decided to sell vintage things. I realized early on that I am helping the environment.  Instead of  going to the landfills, these things  are  redirected to some loving homes who appreciate old things which still hold value to this day and age. The less trees are cut down and the less cows are slaughtered are good for our planet.

These old items become interesting once again for those people who are familiar with them when they were growing up.  These objects become the talking point of the older generation who have experienced them and transfer this knowledge to the younger generation by re-using and talking about them.  These items connect you to the history of people and things in the past thus making you more appreciative of the present.
